The story

Built by policing, for policing

An office after dark, desks lit by their screens.

GSA was established in 1997 by Geoff Smith, a retired police officer with thirty years’ service, most of it in crime. The company’s roots go back further, to one of the first networked crime and intelligence systems in UK policing, specified and built for a Leicestershire force in the early 1990s when almost everything was still on paper: it gave officers their workload, statements and photographs at any workstation.

That understanding of how police work actually flows, from the first record to disclosure and court, has shaped every product since. Software is built and configured with the officers and staff who use it, to the way each organisation works.

Today GSA software is in use at almost every UK police force and at national agencies, and across the public sector, including government departments, NHS trusts, local authorities and universities, with systems supplied internationally including in Gibraltar. The company is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001, holds Cyber Essentials Plus, hosts its products in the UK and supplies them through the G-Cloud and Digital Outcomes and Specialists frameworks.

Roles at GSA span development, support, training and implementation, and many are filled by people from a law enforcement background. Recruitment runs through partner agencies, and current roles appear on the company’s LinkedIn page.
